Mission Statement

The mission of Nacoochee Presbyterian Church, in communion with God and the Holy Spirit, is to show in word and deed the life and love of Jesus Christ.

We celebrate the diversity of God's creation as we seek to be an inclusive Christian family devoted to worship, prayer, justice, peace, nurture, fellowship, and stewardship of all God's gifts.

• Worship

Worship Vision Statement

We envision worship at Nacoochee Presbyterian Church
to be a celebration of the mystery and power of God's love for the world in Jesus Christ through Word and Sacrament, prayers and music. We envision worship nurturing our faith in God and our connections with one another and inspiring us to loving outreach.


Goals for Worship

We will work...

  • to celebrate and continue to support the meaningful music ministry.
  • to celebrate and continue to support the meaningful worship ministry.
  • to involve all ages in the worship life of the congregation.
  • to improve the ushering program
    such that everyone will feel welcomed and a part of the worship service.
  • to create and implement a systematic approach of welcome and hospitality
    for those who visit this congregation and who indicate interest
    in knowing more about the congregation.
  • to continue to offer an environment of worship that welcomes seekers.
  • to balance the friendliness, casualness, and intimacy of this local community
    with the transcendent mystery of God.


Actions for Worship

  • We will create a visitors/new members packet of information.
  • We will explore the need and possibilities for another worship service.
  • We will explore the possibility of a sound system including speakers in the fellowship hall.

 

• Nurture

Nurture Vision Statement

We envision Nacoochee Presbyterian Church to be a community of faith where all members, friends, and visitors will experience the ongoing nurture of the congregation. We envision infants, children, youth, young adults, single people, married people, partnered people, and older adults finding encouragement and strength for the journey together of life and faith.


Goals for Nurture

We will work...

  • to improve communication among all members, friends, visitors,
    and others interested in our community of faith.
  • to mentor new members.
  • to expand the number of people involved in the ongoing ministry of the church.
  • to celebrate the time and gifts people bring to organizing and teaching Sunday School
    and will continue to work to make the classes fit the needs of the community.
  • to continue to improve the nursery during worship and Sunday School.
  • to build a stronger youth ministry.
  • to create support groups for care-givers for older adults.
  • to explore the issues of transportation for all areas of ministry in our congregation.

 

Actions for Nurture

  • We will have inter-net access for a web-page and e-mail.
  • We will keep the directory updated.
  • We will utilize phone services for regular communication.
  • We will strengthen "Care Groups."
  • We will create "Supper Clubs."
  • We will explore "Stephen's Ministries."
  • We will assign new members to "Care Groups" and to longer term members.
  • We will create a skills and interests data bank of our membership.
  • We will have the youth involved in decision making for the church,
    especially in areas related to the youth.
  • We will establish stronger connections with local churches.
  • We will create a strong Youth Committee.
  • We will explore the possibility of a staff person for younger and older youth.
  • We will explore the possibility of a staff person for older adult ministries.
  • We will determine the needs and costs for a van
    and other possible solutions to transportation issues in our congregation.

 

• Outreach

Outreach Vision Statement

We envision Nacoochee Presbyterian Church to be a community of faith committed to sharing God's love, peace, and justice to all the world. We envision our congregation involved in ongoing ministries and partnerships that promote the well-being of all God's children and creation.


Goals for Outreach

We will work...

  • to coordinate ministries and focus energies in the area of outreach.
  • to celebrate and communicate the outreach work already being done
    by members and friends of our congregation, by the church universal, and by our denomination.
  • to raise consciousness about issues of outreach, peace, and justice.
  • to continue and strengthen our commitment to be a community of faith
    that speaks out on peace and justice issues in church and society.
  • to celebrate and expand educational outreach done with Bean Creek and with the Hispanic population in our area.
  • to explore establishing or strengthening connections to world outreach programs.



Actions for Outreach

  • We will do a "needs assessment" of the local area.
  • We will have the adult Sunday School program incorporate peace and justice themes.
  • We will utilize the newsletter, web-page, and e-mail
    to communicate concerning outreach, and peace and justice issues.
  • We will explore participation in groups like "Bread for the World," "Heifer Project," "Church World Service," "SERRV," and the "MAM Center in Guatemala."
